The Drinking Water Inspectorate (DWI) have issued four new pieces of legislation for the regulation of public and private water supplies in England and Wales.
In England the current legislation is now:
The Water Supply (Water Quality) Regulations 2016
The Private Water Supplies (England) Regulations 2016
The most significant change is a requirement for local authorities and water suppliers to risk assess and monitor supplies for ionising radiation: radon (drinking water quality limit of 100Bq/l), total indicative dose and tritium. In doing so the new legislation implements the relevant portions of the Euratom EU directive on ionising radiation.
Copies of the four new statutory instruments are available from the DWI′s website.
