For the past four years the courtyard garden at our Howdon laboratory has been visited each Spring by a mother duck, several baby ducks arriving shortly thereafter.
We′ve embraced their presence by building a small pond in the garden and by buying plenty of suitable bird food.
This year we have 10 ducklings and most have survived. Previous years have suffered awful attrition rates due to magpies.
The ducks are a welcome presence in our garden but they can be a little shy, hence the lack of good photographs. We′ll provide further duck updates in the near future.
In the meantime we trust that you appreciate our restraint in not peppering this article with duck related puns.
